This season, there’s a new option in town for family-friendly holiday entertainment. For five consecutive weekends leading up to Christmas, Himmel’s Landscape & Garden Center on Mountain Road will transform into Himmel’s Holiday Village, a festive attraction that features a range of activities and artisanal shopping.
“We are showcasing over 70 local vendors, visits with Santa Claus, a magical unicorn, face painting, book readings by local author Nate Whiting, great food, free cocoa and crafts, and festive music in a beautiful winter wonderland atmosphere,” explained Himmel’s owner and operator Elizabeth Elliott.
The Holiday Village, which is free to attend and offers expanded parking in the back lot of the property, features something for all ages. For children, there are daily crafts, complementary hot cocoa, book readings, visits with Santa, face painting, and more. Elliott explained that Himmel’s Holiday Village has partnered with Dun-Pikin Farm, Lake Shore Volunteer Fire Company, Anne Arundel County Public Library, Historic London Town and Gardens, and others.
The shed-like structures that were recently built house the Holiday Village’s anchor vendors who are on-site for the duration of the event to set up shop. Those anchor vendors include Twin Valley Distillers, Goldfinch Home, Heart, and Garden, E.L. & Company, Washed Up Art, and Diplicious.
In addition to local vendors, children’s activities and general entertainment, there is also hot food available exclusively from The Rumor Reel’s all-new food truck, Rumor Has It. The food truck is offering specialty menu items such as chimichurri steak frites, steak chili with corn bread dippin’ sticks, smash burgers, buffalo cauliflower bites, and more.
“Himmel’s mission is to help our neighbors build a better, healthier, and more beautiful world, and one way we demonstrate that is by supporting our local economy and uplifting other small businesses,” Elliott emphasized. “This is an event focused on building community and providing an atmosphere for families and friends to connect, have an enjoyable experience, and make memories, without spending a fortune on entry fees. We also believe that this fun event will support the local economy by introducing newcomers to our great local businesses, vendors, artisans, and restaurants.”
Days of operation for the Holiday Village are Thursday through Sunday, with opening times beginning at 3:00pm on Thursdays and Fridays, and 2:00pm on Saturdays and Sundays. The event ends each evening at 8:00pm. A complete schedule of each day’s events and attractions is listed on the Himmel’s Holiday Village website.
“Himmel’s Holiday Village would not be possible without the support of our partners – Jaw Drop Productions and The Rumor Reel, as well as our sponsors: Renewal by Andersen, The J.F. Johnson Lumber Company, Dun-Pikin Farm, 89.7 WTMD, Bay Area Mosquito & Tick Service, Hammock Island Marina, Nicole Watts Studio, Arundel Federal Savings Bank, Swede-Art Professional Face Painting, Laumann Plumbing Service; Laumann and Company, Laumann Enterprises, Fruitful Farmers, and the tireless work of Himmel’s Landscape and Garden Center staff who went above and beyond,” added Elliott.
