Chesapeake High School celebrated two postseason soccer victories Wednesday, Nov. 4, as the girls captured a Class 3A regional championship and the boys earned a 1–0 playoff win to keep their season moving forward.
The Chesapeake girls defeated crosstown rival Northeast High School, 1–0, in overtime in the regional championship at Chesapeake High School in Pasadena.
The matchup brought together familiar opponents, with many of the players having competed alongside or against one another for years through local soccer programs. This time, a regional title was on the line, and the Cougars delivered a decisive performance, pairing nine goals with a shutout to secure the championship.
For Northeast, the defeat ended a seven-game winning streak and a postseason run that brought the Eagles to the regional final.
Chesapeake’s boys also recorded a shutout Wednesday, defeating Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, known as Poly, 1–0 in the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association Class 3A boys soccer state playoff tournament.
Easton Long scored the game’s lone goal, with an assist from Colton Keeter. Chesapeake’s defense held the Engineers scoreless to protect the narrow lead and secure the Cougars’ second consecutive victory.
The win improved Chesapeake’s record to 11–4–1 and earned the boys a spot in the next round, where they will face James M. Bennett High School on Friday, Nov. 6.
With a regional championship for the girls and another playoff victory for the boys, Wednesday marked a memorable night for Chesapeake soccer.
