Angel’s Food Market announced today that as of mid-February, the longstanding grocery store will officially become Green Valley Marketplace.
“We are delighted to announce that 4681 Mountain Road will soon experience exciting developments. As of mid-February, we will join the Green Valley Market family as their fourth location,” said Angel’s General Manager Kim Ward in a Facebook post. “You can rest assured that we will continue to provide our signature salads, catering services, beer, wine, and liquor selection, while also introducing enhancements to our store, including new equipment, cases, refrigeration, and decor. Furthermore, we will incorporate Laurels fresh bakery items into our offerings. This transition will bring numerous benefits and growth opportunities for our team,” she added.
Angel’s started off in the 1920s as a roadside farm stand. From there, it grew into a small grocery store and was acquired by the Clocker family in 1960. Since then, Angel’s has gone through many changes and has withstood many challenges, including a fire in 1976 that destroyed much of the store. After being rebuilt, the store tripled its original size.
Over the years, Angel’s has built a reputation for their one-of-a-kind homemade salads – specifically their potato salads, macaroni salads and coleslaws. Residents of the Lake Shore peninsula consider Angel’s a one-stop shop, as the store offers a daily hot food bar, deli, produce, and more. Additionally, they are among few grocery stores in the state of Maryland permitted to sell beer, wine and liquor.
With the acquisition, the location at 4681 Mountain Road will become Green Valley Marketplace’s fourth store. In October 2019, Green Valley took over Lauer’s Superthrift in Chesterfield. B. Green & Company, a third-generation, family-owned business run by president Benjy Green, along with Ben and Bernice Sigman — owns Green Valley Marketplace. Since the Baltimore-based company was founded over 100 years ago, they have remained committed to providing great service, great products and pricing, and giving back to the community. Outside of Pasadena, Green Valley Marketplace also has locations in Arnold, Maryland and Elkridge, Maryland.

No.Why would they? Angel’s had a liquor license. It has nothing to do with any other stores.
Will the other stores be able to sell beer and wine now, too?
