The year was 2010 when a few Pasadena residents got together and started asking themselves why Pasadena did not have its own Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. Glen Burnie, Severna Park and Annapolis all each had a ceremony of their own… why didn’t Pasadena? With just a week or two to spare, these local residents put together what would become the very first Pasadena Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. It was held at the former Brumwell’s Flea Market lot and attracted a few hundred residents.
While it has grown and changed a bit since those early years, Pasadena’s Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony has become one of the community’s most beloved holiday traditions. This year’s event, hosted by The Pasadena Business Association, will take place on Tuesday, December 5 at Lake Shore Plaza, beginning at 5:30pm. The tree is scheduled to be illuminated at 6:00pm.
This year’s ceremony will include a special visit from Santa and his magic sleigh, fire apparatus, children’s games and activities, music and more. There will also be a special reading from local author Nate Whiting, who will recite from his published book, “The Tale Of The Christmas Wish Crackler”.
The Pasadena Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony is free and open to the public. The Pasadena Business Association will be accepting nonperishable food and monetary donations to support their “A Child’s Christmas” gift drive.
After the ceremony, the tree will be lit up every evening in Lake Shore Plaza from 5:00pm until 10:00pm.
So bundle up the kids and make sure everyone dons jingle bells and their best holiday attire – it’s going to be another great event. See you there!
