Second Alarm Brewhouse, the Fort Smallwood Road-based nonprofit coffee shop whose mission has been to celebrate local volunteer fire service, announced today that they will permanently close on March 3. President Duane McKee made the announcement in an email to member subscribers on Friday morning. “I regret to inform you that the Coffee Shop and Speakeasy will be closing its doors permanently on Sunday, March 3rd, 2024. It was a difficult decision, but after much consideration and analysis, we have concluded that it is in the best interest of the non-profit organization to close these establishments,” he stated.
Opened in 2019, Second Alarm Brewhouse’s mission has been to increase awareness of the Volunteer Fire Service, while also aiming to recruit new volunteers to the fire service. The fire station-themed coffee house sells its own coffee blend, supplied by Chesapeake Bay Roasting Company, and offers daily breakfast pastries, sandwiches and smoothies.
“I cannot express enough gratitude for the incredible support you have given us as we work tirelessly to address the critical issue of volunteer firefighter shortages in firehouses. I understand that this transition period may seem uncertain and confusing for some, but I want to assure you that our commitment to this mission remains unwavering,” said McKee in the email.
“Your support is crucial to our mission. With your annual membership donation, we can sustain our efforts and continue to make a positive difference in the community, especially during this time of regrouping. Let’s stand together and make a real difference in our communities. Thank you for your understanding and for supporting our cause.”
McKee encouraged patrons to take advantage of the coffee shop and speakeasy until their last day of operation on March 3rd, 2024. The shop is open daily from 6am-2pm at 8510 Fort Smallwood Road, next to the Riviera Beach Volunteer Fire Company.
