
Anne Arundel County voters will choose a new County Executive in 2026 as current County Executive Steuart Pittman reaches his term limit and cannot seek reelection. The winner of the Democratic primary election on June 23 will advance to the general election in November, where they’ll face Dave Crawford, a volunteer fire chief who’s running unopposed in the Republican Primary.
For the 2026 Gubernatorial Primary Election:
Early Voting: Thursday, June 11 – Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Primary Election Day: Tuesday, June 23, 2026.
Democratic Candidates
James Kitchin
James Kitchin serves as a special assistant to County Executive Steuart Pittman and has worked within the county administration on a variety of policy and governmental initiatives. His campaign has emphasized government operations, environmental stewardship, resilience planning, and continuing efforts related to sustainability and community services.
Allison Pickard
Allison Pickard currently serves on the Anne Arundel County Council representing District 2. During her time on the council, she has worked on issues involving land use, public safety, environmental protection, education, and community development. Her campaign has highlighted planning, infrastructure, housing, and economic growth.
Pete Smith
Pete Smith is a member of the Anne Arundel County Council representing District 1 and previously served on the council before returning to office in 2022. His campaign focuses on economic development, public safety, workforce growth, housing attainability, and maintaining quality-of-life services throughout the county.
Republican Candidate
Dave Crawford
Dave Crawford is a longtime volunteer firefighter, community advocate, father, grandfather, and food service manager. A resident of Anne Arundel County for decades, Crawford has been active in public service through volunteer firefighting and community organizations. He is the sole Republican candidate seeking the County Executive position in 2026.
According to his campaign, Crawford’s priorities include public safety, fiscal responsibility, support for local businesses, affordability for families and seniors, and strengthening county government operations. His campaign emphasizes leadership experience, emergency response preparedness, and community engagement.

The Democratic nominee selected in the June 23 primary will advance to the November General Election to face Republican Dave Crawford. The winner will become Anne Arundel County’s next County Executive and will help guide county government through the next four years.
