The Chesapeake High School boys’ varsity soccer team isn’t content with being an underdog anymore. After a 12-2 campaign in 2024 that ended with more frustration than celebration, the 5-1 Cougars are determined to turn early-season promise into postseason success under head coach Ryan Keeter, now in his fourth year at the helm.
Led by a deep senior class, including All-State forward Byron Klohr, defender Paul Michael, goalkeeper Nate Fincham, forwards Cade Shannon and midfielders CJ August and Drew Williams, the Cougars bring both experience and firepower. Junior midfielder Colton Keeter adds balance in the middle, while newcomers Jacob Katona (forward) and Tyler Findley (defender) are already making noise as impact players.
So far, the Cougars are living up to expectations. After narrowly edging an opponent in their previous outing, Chesapeake bounced back with authority, routing Meade 4-0 yesterday. The Cougars never let the Mustangs find the back of the net, notching their fourth win of the season by at least three goals. The result boosted Chesapeake to a 5-1 record, while Meade slid to 1-5.
The Cougars’ next test comes tonight at 7:00pm against Arundel (4-1-1).
For Keeter’s squad, the key to chasing a regional crown in the 3A East I bracket will be sustaining consistency, keeping leaders healthy, and staying adaptable in the face of midseason challenges. The depth is there, the chemistry is visible, and the early momentum is undeniable.
Whether that translates into banners remains to be seen, but Cougar fans can be confident: this team has every intention of making 2025 a season to remember.
