The Chesapeake High School Marching Band struck the right note on Saturday, September 27, taking home first place honors at the Guilford Park High School competition. With a commanding performance of their 2025 field show, “Into the Abyss,” the band earned a score of 73.5 to top the field.
Under the direction of Band Director Mr. Rupp and Drill Director Mr. Welsh, the Cougars delivered a show that combined precision marching, powerful music, and dramatic visual effects. Leading the band onto the field was Field Commander Tj Laning, who guided the ensemble through the demanding program with confidence and poise.
The victory is a testament to the hard work and dedication of Chesapeake’s students, who have spent countless hours rehearsing since the summer to perfect their performance.
The Guilford Park win marks an exciting milestone early in the competition season for Chesapeake, and the band hopes to build on this success in the weeks ahead. With “Into the Abyss” continuing to develop and refine, fans can expect the Cougars’ performances to reach even greater heights as the season progresses.
