Hancock’s Resolution, a historic local farmstead will open its gates this weekend for a sensory celebration of summer, offering residents a look at regional agricultural history alongside a seasonal harvest.
Historic Hancock’s Resolution is scheduled to host its annual Lavender Appreciation Day this Sunday, June 14, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission to the event is free.
Located on a 26-acre parcel on Bayside Beach Road, the historic site features seasonal lavender fields currently entering full bloom. The afternoon event is designed to celebrate the harvest with educational tours, historical demonstrations, and community activities.
Organizers have scheduled guided tours of the property’s lavender fields and heritage gardens, where visitors can learn about the cultivation, harvesting, and historical uses of the fragrant herb. The event will also feature culinary demonstrations with samples of homemade lavender cookies and distributed recipes for seasonal treats, including honey lavender panna cotta. Attendees can also participate in a hands-on workshop to assemble their own aromatic lavender sachets.
In addition to the agricultural programming, the afternoon will include live musical performances by the DeJohns. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating on the grounds.
The event provides an opportunity to explore one of the region’s most intact historical resources. The site’s stone farmhouse, which dates back to approximately 1785, and the accompanying milk house will be open for historical tours. The structures represent rare, authentic examples of unrestored rural architecture from the post-Revolutionary War era. Visitors can also view the Quilt Story Trail, an outdoor exhibition that integrates local history with textile art across the property.
