In front of a packed home crowd at Chesapeake High School on Tuesday evening, the Chesapeake Cougars delivered a commanding performance in the Region Final, blanking the Eagles baseball 11-0 to continue their postseason run.
Powered by an explosive start at the plate and a dominant effort on the mound, Chesapeake took control early and never looked back as the Cougars celebrated a region championship on their home field.
Chesapeake jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning. Adams opened the scoring with an RBI single before Hoyer delivered a two-run double to quickly put the Cougars in front. Watts followed with another run-scoring single, giving Chesapeake a four-run cushion after one inning.
The Cougars blew the game open in the second inning with six more runs. Corcoran singled home a run, Adams added a two-run hit, and Hoyer continued his big afternoon with another RBI single. A wild pitch brought home another run before Watts capped the inning with his second RBI hit of the game.
By the end of the second inning, Chesapeake held an 11-0 advantage and had complete control of the Region Final matchup.
Sowers turned in a dominant performance on the mound for Chesapeake, tossing four scoreless innings while allowing just two hits. The right-hander struck out four and walked one. Bailey added a scoreless inning in relief to preserve the shutout.
The Cougars finished with 12 hits offensively and played a clean game defensively without committing an error. Watts led the way at the plate, going 3-for-3 with multiple RBIs from the seventh spot in the lineup. August added two hits for Chesapeake, while Adams anchored the defense with a team-high seven fielding chances.
For Northeast, Chase McLaughlin recorded two hits to lead the Eagles offensively.
With the victory, Chesapeake advances deeper into postseason play with momentum firmly on its side as the Cougars continue their pursuit of a state championship.
