Volunteer firefighter Dave Crawford officially launched his campaign for Anne Arundel County Executive at his kickoff rally yesterday surrounded by family, friends and supporters at the Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Department.
Crawford, a Republican, said his candidacy will focus on protecting taxpayers, strengthening schools, supporting first responders, and ensuring Anne Arundel County remains a safe, affordable place to live and work.
“As a firefighter, I’ve seen firsthand what it means to run toward danger when others run away,” Crawford said. “Public service isn’t about politics – it’s about stepping up when your community needs you most.”
He pledged to bring that same spirit of service and accountability to county government. “I will hold the line on taxes, make safety in our schools and our streets a priority, and support the small businesses that keep our economy strong.”
Crawford also emphasized affordability and community values. “Too many families are finding it harder to afford to stay in Anne Arundel County. I’m running to make sure this remains a place where people can raise their children, feel safe, and retire with dignity.”
Highlighting his outsider status, Crawford added: “I’m not a career politician – I’m a neighbor, a firefighter, and a dad who loves this county. My focus isn’t on politics, but on doing what’s right for our people and our future.”
The campaign kickoff marks the beginning of a Republican primary contest where Crawford says he will offer a clear, conservative vision rooted in fiscal restraint, strong neighborhoods, and public safety. His campaign will continue across Anne Arundel County in the months ahead.
The next general election for Anne Arundel County Executive is scheduled for November 3, 2026. Current Anne Arundel County Executive, Steuart Pittman, is term-limited and cannot run for re-election. Democratic candidates who have entered the race include Allison Pickard, who represents Millersville, Severn and Glen Burnie on the Anne Arundel County Council, and Pete Smith, who represents District 1 – Brooklyn Park, Jessup, Linthicum, Hanover, and Severn.
